My favorite verses from today are: "Will you play with him as if he were a pet goldfish?" "How, then, do you expect to stand up to me?" "To meet him is to dance with death."
Moses and others throughout Scripture were afraid to "meet God," because it would mean certain death.
Job has uttered only two sentences in the past four chapters: "I'm speechless, in awe—words fail me. I should never have opened my mouth! I've talked too much, way too much. I'm ready to shut up and listen."
We fear confrontation with an unreasonable boss or an overbearing parent, but how do we feel about the notion of meeting God? Does it happen in this life (i.e. in times of worship, prayer, service, etc) or do we have to wait until the end of our lives? Will we tremble in fear or collapse into the arms of grace?
One of my favorite songs that Laura has sung in church is "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me.
I can only imagine What it will be like When I walk By your side
I can only imagine What my eyes will see When your face Is before me I can only imagine
I can only imagine
[Chorus:] Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine When that day comes When I find myself Standing in the Son
I can only imagine When all I will do Is forever Forever worship You I can only imagine
I can only imagine
[Chorus] Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all I can only imagine
I can only imagine [x2]
I can only imagine When all I will do Is forever, forever worship you
The phrase a picture is worth a thousand words
