I guess it is back to doom and gloom. The other day I was half-heartedly watching a Discovery Channel show called "Apocalypse How." The end will come at some point, but HOW?? Nuclear armageddon, super volcanoes, asteroids, aliens and even black holes hurtling throw the universe could do us in. Surprisingly, hyenas and jackals were not mentioned. But if you watch Discovery enough you will learn that feral hogs might just get us too.
The prophecy of the destruction of Babylon came true. So far, I think the Discovery Channel is just guessing...

After reading this chapter I feel like turning
ReplyDeleteon "the good night show" and watching an episode of Angelina Ballerina. Way to much death and destruction after the previous chapter.
Why is life like that...up, down, up, down. I feel like I'm doing grass drills in football again!
ReplyDeleteGod is on the move, but not just with wrath to destroy sin, death, and the devil. His Holy Spirit and grace sweeps over us too.
There are always two sides to the story, this story we find ourselves in (that was a preview for tomorrow's sermon).
I always find it hard to read these chapters in the bible that talk about God's destruction and harsh treatment of people. After all he created us and knows that we are born to sin, so why be so harsh with humans?
ReplyDeleteIt is not for us to know why God does what he does and defintatly not to question his motives. As his people we need to just keep trying to do what we think is best and to listen hard to his direction.
God created us to not sin. WE were born into sin, but Adam and Eve weren't. God is judging sin and since we sin, God is judging us. But he is a merciful judge. Even though he willingly, sacrificially pays the price for our sin, it doesn't make his anger with sin subside. He hates to see his children struggle with sin. After all, he's our loving Father.
ReplyDeleteGod wants us to set aside our selfish desires and live as self-less workers in the kingdom, slaves for HIS purposes. His primary purpose? Love and the reconciliation that goes along with it. Prime example for how to do this? Our brother, Jesus...washing our feet, feeding our deepest hunger.
