Job 39

As God continues to give it to Job, he talks about mountain goats, a doe and her fawn, the wild donkey, the wild buffalo, the ostrich, the horse, the hawk, the eagle...what about us?

I have learned a couple things over the years:
1. We are insignificant in the whole scheme of things. God and his creation are so big. This humbles us.
2. We are valuable beyond compare. We are the pinnacle of God's creation, its stewards. We are made in God's image to love and serve others. This empowers us.

God's will in revealed to us in community. "Where two or three are gathered, I am there among you," Jesus says. We need to keep coming together to discern God's will for us as Faith. His will for each of us individually will become more clear as we live out his will for us together.

  1. Interesting thought that his will for us individually will be more clear as we live out his will for us together. I have never thought about it that way. I was just praying this morning for God to help guide me and show me his will for my life. Sometimes I am not sure I am doing what he has planned for me and would just like a sign to say 'Yes you are on the right path'.

In my church life I feel confident that I am doing what God has called me to do. But I feel as if I am at a crossroads in my professional life and am not sure which direction to take. I am just hoping that I follow the correct path and find peace in that area of my life as well.

  2. My hope in the work we do this spring to determine who Faith is will inform each of our home lives too. When we are drafting a purpose statement and guiding principles, each of us will probably think more about our purpose and what guides us.

  3. It has become my belief (and MANY people may argue with this...) that God doesn't care so much about what path we're on. God cares about what we do with whatever path we happen to find ourselves on.

God cares that we live faithfully, use our gifts, love those we meet, and preach the gospel. God doesn't micro-manage our lives so much that we are "supposed" to be in one career or another. Any more than God cares what city we live in or what color shirt I wear today ('tho red is always a good choice).

I think God cares more about the "small stuff" in our lives...the daily acts of faith and love...than about the monumental decisions.

Obviously, a great deal of my personal history and baggage is wrapped up in this concept. And I could go on with how it applies to the Biblical narrative and current church theology. But I'll keep it short enough to be readable!

  4. I was focused on creation as well and our being "stewards." Are we really the keepers of creation or is God saying to just leave it alone because it "is good!" Sometimes I think we are a little too pompous in thinking that we need to help out. The best way we can help is by leaving nature alone, right? What is the proper balance though? We need to eat and we need shelter, but what is the best example of a human society that has lived most properly with creation?
