Isaiah 31

See...this is why the lectionary committees gave us 4 scriptures every Sunday. Sometimes I have just NOTHING to say on the scripture at hand.

Trust God...got it. Don't trust (Egypt, money, other gods)...got it.

I'm not saying that I've perfected this in my life, but I certainly have read it enough, and we've discussed it a great deal in the blog - I can think of nothing more to say.

Sorry - looking forward to some insight on coming chapters in the coming days.

  1. Spoken like a preacher!

I thought the same thing. We had an interesting discussion yesterday about what matters in this life of faith, what we value so deeply that it affects our behaviors. We talked about going back to the basics: Bible reading, praying, graditude for all that God gives us.

When our leaders do this and encourage the rest of the congregation to follow suit, something happens. Two basic areas unfold for our work as church (God's work through us):
    1. Building up the body. Ministry by the baptized for the baptized. Equipping the saints/sinners for...
    2. Mission. Loving your neighbor (the ones who aren't a part of the body of Christ) as much as you love yourself. Outreach. Going in peace to love and serve the Lord.

For our children and youth, a three part process occurs as they begin to own this faith for themselves:
    1. Know it (all that we teach them about this "way" at home and in church, the things we promise to teach them in baptism)
    2. Believe it, which is what Kelly is talking about. Trusting that God is good and is working in their lives, through the church, and in the world. God is making all things new!
    2. Live it. Can any of us get to this point if we don't know the story we find ourselves in? If we don't trust God with everything?
